‘I’m Dominique, I grew up in Devon, England, studied and worked in London before moving to Berlin, Germany in 2020.At the time when I began working with clay, it was during the pandemic. Clay allowed me to feel as though I was contact with the physical or ‘real’ world.I love that working with clay isn’t a linear process, you grasp, manipulate and flow with your feelings, the clays sensitivity in my hands is an important drive in the pieces. There’s a conversation between my intention and the clay’s own ability to be expressive. It feels like the clay and I creating together.Through the stages of creating, firing and glazing each piece, there’s a lengthy period of waiting that is beautiful and exciting. The unknown, the unexpected, the uniqueness of each piece.The process grounds me and guides me, every time the clay is in my hands it reminds me of why I started, that connection with the physical world.’
